Life in Britannia Beach

Historic Howe Sound Waterfront

Britannia Beach feels like a place being beautifully reimagined, where deep history, ocean views, mountain air and village life come together on the edge of Howe Sound.

Britannia Beach sits along Howe Sound on the Sea to Sky Highway, north of Furry Creek and south of Squamish. It occupies one of the most visually striking stretches of the corridor, where the mountains rise steeply from the water and the road threads between forest, rock, shoreline and sky.

Its location gives it a unique role along the Sea to Sky. It is close enough to Squamish for everyday services, adventure and schools, close enough to Furry Creek and Porteau Cove for coastal escapes, and still connected south toward Lions Bay, Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver and the city. But Britannia Beach also feels distinct, not quite a quiet residential pocket, not quite a resort town, and not simply a historic site.

The geography and history are inseparable here. Britannia Beach was the processing and waterfront hub of the mine, while Mount Sheer sat higher in the valley above. The old mine was vast, with approximately 210 kilometres of tunnels running through the mountains, and Mill 3, also known as the Concentrator, became a National Historic Site because of its industrial and architectural importance.

Today, the same setting that once supported mining is being reimagined for modern village life. Britannia Beach now offers a rare combination: oceanfront scenery, historic buildings, new homes, local amenities, destination stops, and immediate access to the outdoor lifestyle of Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky.
